🎭 Accessibility at Rivertowns Playhouse

Live Captions for Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing Audiences with AVA

At Rivertowns Playhouse, we are committed to creating an inclusive space where everyone can experience the magic of live theater. For our Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members, we offer real-time captions powered by the AVA app— even for fast-paced, unscripted performances like improv.

Wheelchair Accessible Venue

We are proud to share that our venue is now 100% wheelchair accessible, and we’re continuing to expand our accessibility each year. From physical space improvements to assistive technologies, we're always striving to create a welcoming environment for all.

Deaf & Hard-Of-Hearing

Access through AVA

📲 How It Works

We use AVA, a speech-to-text app that transcribes dialogue in real time.

  • Captions appear live on your own phone or tablet

  • Designed to handle fast-paced, overlapping speech

  • Perfect for both scripted and improvised performances

✅ What You’ll Need

  • A smartphone or tablet (fully charged)

  • Headphones (optional – for screen reader users)

  • Access to our free WiFi (provided at the venue)

Don’t have a device? Let us know — we may be able to lend you one for the show.

🔗 How to Access Captions

When you arrive:

  1. Connect to our free WiFi

  2. Scan the QR code posted in the lobby

  3. Join the live caption stream in your browser

  4. Enjoy the show — with subtitles on your screen

💡 Need assistance? Our staff will be available before the show to help get you set up.
